Keeping You Informed…
There is no school for students this Friday as it is a PD Day for staff.
CDT Yearbook
If you wish to order a yearbook please fill out and return the yearbook envelope that was sent home by Thursday, March 24. The return date on the envelope indicates a return date of March 25; however, there is no school for students on that day.
Power Hour
The Power Hour Program organized by the Riverview Boys and Girls Club will begin again this week. The program runs over the noon hour and offers physical recreation activities in the gym. The program is designed to promote fun and fitness. Grade 5 students who attended the program in the fall will have their final session this week. Registration forms for grade 4 students will be sent home soon.
CDT and ECO Schools Projects
Over the past three years, CDT has been conducting many different projects and activities that are linked with Eco School Canada and the Gaia Project. Through this we have received a Gold Level Standing for our school from last year and would like to continue to push forward to achieve a Platinum Level Standing. As part of our school community we are asking parents and guardians, if they wish to, help encourage their children to participate at school and home.
Please note the following activities that you can actively engage in to support our initiative (on a voluntary basis):
Meatless Monday’s – what we eat has an impact on climate and meat has a much higher carbon footprint than plant-based options.
Waste Free Lunch – A waste-free lunch may include reusable food and drink containers, washable cutlery, and cloth napkins instead of prepackaged foods, single-use plastic baggies, juice boxes and pouches, paper napkins, aluminum foil, and disposable utensils. When you go waste-free, you are helping to reduce the environmental impacts caused from the unnecessary transportation, production, and disposal of packaging products. Take action by tackling the first of the 5 Rs by reducing the amount of waste generated at your school!
Anti-idling – idling is the act of letting a vehicle’s engine run while it is parked. Idling can be a big problem in schools and often occurs when students are picked up or dropped off. Letting cars idle waste money and fuel, and produces greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) that contribute to climate change.
Below are some dates for special Eco Friendly activities for students:
March 21, 2022 – GOOS bin (good on one side paper bin)
March 28, 2022 – 12:30-1:30 WWF Earth Hour
March 30, 2022 – WWF Sweater Day (turning down the heat to save on greenhouse gas emissions – wear a sweater instead!)
April 14, 2022 – The Great Gulp
April 19, 2022 – Take Me Outside Day (promoting a healthy lifestyle outside with learning!)
April 22, 2022 – Earth Day (activities to be shared) + School Yard Clean UP!
May 23, 2022 – This week we are going to CONNECT WITH NATURE by having nature walks, bird watching, and plant identification
June 2022 – The month of June we are going to focus on Active and Sustainable Transportation to school (Walk and roll to school) plus promote Anti Idling in the parking lot
Skate Park and Youth Centre Notice
Riverview Parks and Recreation will have a special PD day opening of the Riverview Skatepark and Youth Centre on March 25th from 1-3 PM for Ages 6-11. Although the skatepark floor will not be open during these hours, there’s so much going on and certainly something for everyone to enjoy!
We’ll be featuring our new Arcade Cabinets in the lounge – which are all FREE to play – and there’s plenty more happening all afternoon
Next door to the Youth Centre, at the Riverview Community Hall, we’ll have open games of badminton, table tennis and a bundle of other games and activities, including an arts and crafts table if you’re feeling creative.
No registration required and it is completely free of charge to enjoy! Parental supervision is required for all users.
We had held a similar opening during March Break for ages 12-17 and had a great response so we’re now giving younger youth who may have never visited the Riverview Indoor Skatepark and Youth Centre a chance to be introduced to all of the awesome things happening within those walls!
